The Ovarian Cancer Peer Support Network (OVCA Peers) is a group of ovarian cancer survivors that meet monthly. We provide a safe and empowering environment for supporting one another, sharing resources, providing information, and encouraging advocacy.
OVCA Peers began in response to a lack of ovarian cancer peer support available in the Greater Toronto Area. We started meeting regularly in 2011 and our membership has grown ever since.
We are structured on a shared leadership model. All women may participate in the positions of Chair, Co-chair, Secretary or Treasurer, on a rotational basis. This system provides for consistency and stability in leadership, plus planning for the network.
Improve the quality of life for women with ovarian cancer.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for women with ovarian cancer by providing a safe and empowering forum for peer support, knowledge and awareness through advocacy
To achieve this mission, the network has three broad aims:
1. Provide support for one another.
Peer support is a powerful model to provide one another with empathy, sharing, practical information, suggestions, and strategies through difficult times.
2. Provide resources to build knowledge.
We regularly welcome expert speakers to share with us their knowledge about ovarian cancer biology and treatment as well as the challenges of living with ovarian cancer.
3. Collectively advocate for change.
We identify issues for women living with ovarian cancer in critical areas such as survivor and family support, access to information, treatment and research.
We work together as survivors to provide our perspective to improve the quality of our care and survivorship experience.
OVCA Peers membership is open to all women living with ovarian cancer.
Participation is free.
